India : Trains running on solar energy

Greenhouse gas emissions are a major problem in our society. Rising average temperatures, glacier retreat, extreme weather events are the consequences of rising CO2 emissions. To combat these phenomena, several solutions can be put in place. For example, solar renewable energy can be one of the factors of the ecological transition. Its capacity has quadrupled in the last decade.

“The trend is on the rise,” says Serge Henri Kelbe, founder of Matrix Power and present since 2007 in the development of solar energy in Africa.

The first of a long series

Following numerous debates on the climate, the world is aware of the risks of global warming. India understood the message and launched its first solar train, consisting of six wagons equipped with solar panels. Garhi Harsaru located 44 kilometers to the north of the country. For the moment, it is the only model and the country is already planning 24 new ones by 2020.

An ecological solution

This train has 16 solar panels on each car allowing it to operate on solar energy. One train is up to 21,000 liters of diesel, an economy that demonstrates India’s interest in protecting the environment. Thus, the country marks a major turning point in its ecological transition.
