United Kingdom – A global company is using its strength to help people switch to renewable suppliers.
IKEA is calling on households to join its latest joint venture – a collective energy switch that promises an exclusive 100% renewable electricity rate. The furniture retailer teamed up with the Big Clean Switch‘s campaign to use a collective switch to get cheaper green energy for households that register. Both companies say this will save a typical UK household a £ 300 a year saving on gas and electricity bills.
The collective switching model implies that thousands are signing up for new rates, with the simple number meaning that it is easier to negotiate a better price. “We hope to make the transition to renewable electricity simple, accessible and affordable for all.” Hege Sæbjørnsen, IKEA Sustainability Manager. Benefits for registrants? A commission for every person who signs up, the money says the business will be used to support the initiatives of the local community in the area of each store. In fact, IKEA could change its motto for “Green is good”.
