The first tattoo institute dedicated to breast reconstruction
Every year, more and more women are affected by breast cancer. In Quebec, this disease affects 6,000 new patients per year. When the diagnosis is made, most of the time, mastectomy is inevitable.
In addition to being long, painful and stressful, this surgery often leaves patients “mutilated”. Some even choose not to think about the breast reconstruction stage because this journey is so exhausting, leaving them marked by the disease.
Alexia Cassar, the only specialist trained in 3D reconstruction tattooing in Europe, wants to change the situation by offering a more accessible and less restrictive solution: 3D tattooing.
3D Tattoo: tomorrow’s surgery?
In the spring of 2017, Alexia Cassar launched a call for donations. Six months later, thanks to an outpouring of generosity, The Tétons Tattoo Shop was created, It was installed in her garden.
This former oncology researcher, whose daughter was diagnosed with cancer at 10 months, is turning to the art of tattooing. At the time, this allowed her to overcome the ordeal she was going through and to live life intensely with “empathy and sympathy ».
This initiative is supported by the medical profession. Indeed, doctors are increasingly recommending this option to their remission patients. Thus, the choice of breast reconstruction through tattooing avoids other painful surgical procedures that lengthen the recovery time. Here, the reconstruction takes only 30 minutes and the three-dimensional effect recreates the volume visually.
A full accompaniment
Unlike the tattoos offered in hospitals and institutes that use semi-permanent ink and fade with time, Alexia Cassar’s reconstruction is a definitive act that closes this painful chapter in the lives of former patients.
Moreover, within this salon, psychological support is more extensive than elsewhere. Alexia wants her clients to be free to talk and take the time to talk to them.
For the time being, 3D breast reconstruction tattooing is still in the expansion phase in France and elsewhere. As for Alexia, aware of the need for “manpower”, she plans in the future to teach the technique through the training she will provide.
