Beyoncé launches college scholarship programmes for women
Believe it or not, Beyoncé’s sixth solo disc Lemonade – and the HBO visual album that came with it – is already one year old. To mark the occasion Queen Be is going all out by launching a new scholarship programme aimed at sending young women to college in the US.
A total of four bursaries will be handed out to undergraduates and graduates studying creative arts, music, literature, or African-American studies for the 2017-18 academic year.
As a statement on Bey’s site explains, the Formation Scholar awards “aim to encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside the box and are bold, creative, conscious and confident.”
The project will, however, be limited to just a handful of US schools including the Berklee College of Music, Howard University, Parsons School of Design and Spelman College.
